The following are skills and abilities I have been able to acquire over the years in working with vulnerable Adults in the Mental Health Sector.
Skills;
-Dealing with service users in a Holistic and non-judgmental way in approach to their care and support by providing a service that is well suited to their needs in order for them to overcome their daily challenges in life.
-Supporting them engage in meaningful activities that are geared towards their recovery and community integration by working collaboratively with multi agencies such as employment, education and leisure activities.
-Advocating on behalf of service users to secure entitlements such as benefits, housing, medical, education etc. and to communicate with multi agencies both verbally and in writing on behalf of service users.
-Making follow ups of service user’s wellbeing by communicating with them over the phone and making home visits.
-Supporting service users live a healthy life style by encouraging them to eat healthy and through regular exercise.
-Supporting service users gain necessary life skills by linking them up with groups and making follow ups about their progress.
-Key working a number of service users through personal involvement in all aspects of their care. Making regular contacts with service users in the community and monitoring their progress and welfare as well as updating the MDT both verbally and in writing.
-Attending weekly one to one meetings with service users and recapping their progress as well as highlighting areas of support that they might need.
-Organizing activities for service users such as holidays and outings.
-Participate in MDT meetings and discussing service user’s progress against agreed outcomes and to offer solutions and ideas to areas that need staffs attention and support.
Abilities;

-To deliver an evidence based service by working collaboratively with Multidisciplinary team, multi agencies, service users and other interested parties.
-Work as a team member and supporting other team members.
-Supervising other staff members and supporting them in attaining their goals.
-Support service users in their progress by assisting them in form fillings and writing up CVs and matching their skills and abilities with job groups and other vocational training courses that area geared towards self-independence.
-Ability to work beyond normal contracted time to meet the needs of the service.
-Attend regular supervision and appraisal meeting as of when required by the manager as well as undertake career progression courses both mandatory and voluntary.
-Ability to deal with difficult situations as they arise and ensure other staff member’s safety.
-Treat all staff members, service users equally irrespective of their age, gender, sexual preference, colour or religious affiliation with respect and dignity they deserve and ensure that other staff members adhere to the same.
-Ability to recognize service users who are in the process of relapse and making timely decisions through crisis intervention initiative where necessary using the available tools and resources.
