Sandwell Mental Health and Social Care Trust provides a range of specialist mental health and learning disability services to people of all ages in Sandwell. The services are provided by a dedicated and skilled workforce at a number of sites in the borough, in the community and in people’s homes. Sandwell consists of six towns namely, Oldbury, Rowley Regis, Smethwick, Tipton, Wednesbury and West Bromwich. It is part of the Black Country and is bordered by Dudley, Wolverhampton, Walsall and Birmingham. Established as the Black Country Mental Health NHS Trust in April 1995, on 1st April 2003 the organisation took operational responsibility for the provision of adult mental health social care previously provided by Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council (Sandwell MBC). At the same time, the provision of Community Learning Disability Services moved from the Trust to Sandwell MBC. As a result, the organisation’s name changed to Sandwell Mental Health NHS and Social Care Trust to more accurately reflect the composition of the organisation. The Trust has a turnover of approximately £46 million and employs approximately 1000 staff, including psychiatrists, psychologists, mental health nurses, occupational therapists, family therapists and social workers.
