Hays is working with one of the best children’s secure centres in the UK and recruiting for Secure Care Officers to work in the young people’s secure training centre based in Milton Keynes. The centre looks after young people aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. The vulnerable young people in their care can be challenging with a complex range of social and emotional needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for young people to develop their life skills, address the behaviours that have led them into custody and effectively re-integrate them into mainstream society on release. They are particularly committed to improving young people’s educational achievement as this is a key to successful reintegration and life opportunities.
Your new role
As a Secure Care Officer (SCO), you’ll be working directly with the young people, you will need to be able to motivate and support them on the residential units and in the classroom to develop life skills, manage their own behaviour and enhance their effective resettlement on release. This role requires the ability to set boundaries, maintain a consistently mature approach and manage the behaviour of people in our care with professional authority, dignity and respect. The role can be very challenging yet extremely rewarding. This is a full time permanent job, working average 40 hours a week on various shift patterns.
What you'll need to succeed
No experience required, you’ll need to be a natural communicator, with excellent interpersonal skills including problem solving and conflict resolution. You will have the ability to apply your life experience, resilient, mature in nature and able to role model positive and proactive behaviours. All you need is commitment to do the right thing and the ability to build rapport with just about anyone. Whatever job you do now, you may have the skills to change your career. You will be subject to an enhanced DBS check, exempt from the rehabilitation of offenders act, 10 years checkable history, lived in the UK for over 3 years and eligible to work in the UK. All job offers will be subject to passing the strict vetting standards of the company.
