Support Worker Driver Opportunity with Haringey Council!

To provide high quality and consistent standards of care and to support to people in carrying out day to day activities in a person centred way. To support people to access the service safely via any means of Transport identified in the person’s support plan. To assist in the promotion, development and support of activities which enable users to participate in their local community.

  • Flexibility of working across a number of different services.
  • To wear appropriate name badge, clothing and shoes whilst on duty.
  • To support people to access the service safely via any means of Transport identified in the person’s support plan.
  • Maintain general housekeeping of service.
  • Each day to carry out fuel, oil, tail lift, tyre pressure and water checks on points of safety and roadworthiness recording information accurately on the vehicle check list sheet.
  • To report immediately any serious mechanical defects, or suspected defects, and to report any other defects or maintenance requirements.
  • To drive the vehicle to designated points at designated times for the purpose of obtaining fuel and for maintenance or repair.
  • To ensure you have sufficient fuel (third-half a tank) to do a day’s work.
  • To drive the vehicle for the purpose of transporting people to and from various locations.
  • To work in conjunction with colleagues to ensure that the standards of the transport service provided is consistent with the standards of care pertaining in the Day Service and Residential Home within the aims of the service.
  • To assist colleagues in the facilitation of passengers to and from the vehicle, e.g. opening and closing doors/operating the steps from outside, operation of the tail-lift, in transferring or helping passengers to their seats, in securing wheelchairs and in giving physical and other help according to need.
  • To ensure people are wearing their seat belts and relevant safety equipment for wheelchair users unless there otherwise stated in the person’ support plan.
  • To effectively plan routes to maximise efficiency.
  • To ensure the vehicle is cleaned and well maintained on a regular basis. Both inside and outside of the vehicle is presented to a high standard.
  • To be familiar with procedures in the event of road accidents, breakdowns and other emergencies, as stated in the transport guidelines.
  • To complete paperwork relevant to these duties.
  • To undertake relevant driving training consistent with the skills/knowledge required in carrying out these duties.
  • To ensure all drivers follow the high way code.
  • Health and Safety aspects/issues, first aid/manual handling etc in relation to working environment, i.e. Hazardous materials and relevant processes/legislations etc
  • To read and follow the Passenger Transport Drivers Handbook road safety and policy guide.
  • Parking tickets issued by the Council are called 'Penalty Charge Notices' (PCNs). They are issued when drivers park their vehicles in contravention of parking restrictions or if drivers enter a bus lane when restrictions are in operation. Parking tickets will now also be issued when a moving traffic [(link removed) contravention has been violated. It is the driver’s responsibility for paying all parking fines that they occur.
  • Understanding, knowledge and ability to follow guidelines that ensure compliance to Health and Safety at Work, Data Protection and other statutory requirements.
  • To understand and to implement on a daily basis, the council’s policies regarding equality of opportunity
  • After training, to assist service users with aspects of personal care, eating and drinking.
